Revolutionary Run Half Marathon + 5K
The Revolutionary Run Half Marathon in Camden, South Carolina is truly a run through history!
The course passes through South Carolina’s oldest inland city, covers eight of Camden’s nine districts and passes by 30 Historical markers and sites. The route starts and finishes at the newly renovated Camden City Arena and passes the Historic Quaker Cemetery (1780), the grave of Agnes of Glasgow, Robert Mills Court House (1825), continues right through the heart of downtown Camden, passes the Camden Archives (full of rotating exhibits about the history of Camden and continues by the homes of many Confederate Generals. Runners and walkers will see beautiful Antebellum homes, run through the site of the Battle of Hobkirk Hill (1781) and finish through the grounds of Historic Camden and the Cornwallis House, home of Joseph Kershaw, Camden’s founding father.
This Half Marathon course gives the runner a feel of a marathon with turns and winding roads. The course is not closed but will have police and/or volunteers at major crossings. It is mainly a flat course with hills located near mile three, five and seven. There are two short sections of dirt road near mile five and twelve. Many of the Historical Markers have information boards that tell you about site if you need to take a break during run. A 5K Run/Walk option is available for those ready to do something revolutionary, just on a smaller scale!
The half marathon starts at 7:30 a.m. and has a 4-hour time limit. We encourage runners/walkers to make it a weekend visiting Historic Camden and the Revolutionary War Visitor Center, the Camden Archives and African American Cultural Center, as well as our Dowtown Cultural District, with our many antique shops, boutique retail stores, art galleries, restaurants and a variety of other indie local businesses.
