Summer Camps at Historic Camden
Historic Camden’s Summer Camp program will offer children 9-12 years of age an opportunity to learn about and engage with history in a variety of ways. These camps are designed to be educational, but fun. Each camp is different, so parents are encouraged to consider signing their child up for multiple camps so that they may gain a more varied and fulfilling experience. These camps will each have multiple stations designed to teach children about the American Revolution, Camden’s history, Indigenous Peoples, the colonial period, archaeology, trades, and agriculture, through presentations and activities. Some of the activities and topics planned include: archaeology, home crafts, the Revolutionary War, candle dipping, whirligigs, scavenger hunt, pinch pots, braiding/rope making, quill writing, Indigenous Peoples, and much more!
Each camp consists of presentations and discussions that allow children to learn about a bevy of topics relating to early American history and how the events that transpired, and the people involved, helped to shape the nation. Children will be provided with materials for various activities and crafts at each camp that will allow them to engage through hands-on learning, and a number of the items/crafts created will make for great keepsakes to carry home!
Each camp costs $25 per child, with a 20% discount for attending two or more camps. Each child will be provided with food and drink. It is recommended that each child bring a towel or blanket to sit on since some of the stations will be located outside. Parents are encouraged to make sure their child is dressed comfortably, especially comfortable footwear. Camps begin June 10th and occur each Friday night through July 29th. Each camp begins at 6pm and ends at 9pm. If you have any questions, please contact Historic Camden at 803-432-9841 or info@historiccamden.org.
