The Supper Table exhibit will be coming to the Arts Center of Kershaw County this summer! The Gallery Opening for this remarkable exhibit will be held on Thursday, June 17th from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm and is open to the public. There will be a cash bar for patrons and all COVID-19 guidelines will be practiced.
The exhibit will run through September 3rd.
Imagine a 12' x 12' x 12' triangular-shaped table set with SC-artist-created place-settings each inspired by one of 12 diverse women from SC history whose lives were dedicated to the betterment of humankind. Around this table are 120 tiles, each naming another great SC woman and decorated by a community member, hang on movable walls. Now, listen to essays about each of these women written by SC writers and theatrically read by SC theatre artists.
The Supper Table, an homage to the 40th anniversary of Judy Chicago’s 1979 exhibit, is a multidisciplinary arts project celebrating the history of SC women and contemporary SC women artists. Whereas Chicago’s The Dinner Party celebrated 39 women in place-settings with 999 tiles beneath, The Supper Table will celebrate 12 women from SC history with 12 place-settings and 120 tiles installed on movable panels. The 12 place-settings are being created by SC women visual artists and the 120 tiles, each naming a groundbreaking SC woman, are being decorated by the public.
The Supper Table brings together 60 literary, visual, theatre, and film artists with 120 community members to create an innovative arts installation celebrating contributions to SC culture and instilling pride in our foremothers as well as SC's contemporary women leaders and artists.
The exhibit will run through September 3rd.
