“Blankets & Bands” Free Concert Series Returns to Town Green

Free concerts return to Town Green this fall, with a variety of music each Thursday through November 3rd, weather permitting. Bring your blanket or lawn chair, family and friends, to enjoy live music outdoors. Bring a picnic dinner, grab some takeout from your favorite local restaurant or enjoy food and beverages available for purchase. 

Music will last from 5:30 to 8:00 pm each Thursday, weather permitting. No glass containers are allowed on Town Green. Beer and wine are permitted Town Green for the hours of the concert only.

On Thursday, October 6th, the free Blankets & Bands concert on Town Green kicks off the 25th Annual Carolina Downhome Blues Festival with Eugene “Hideaway” Bridges and Jared Petteys & the Headliners. Eugene “Hideaway” Bridges was born in New Orleans and has been playing publicly since he was five years old. Charleston-based Jared Petteys & the Headliners bring a blend of rockabilly, blues and swampy classic rock and are on a mission to to save American roots rock ‘n roll music and deliver it to the next generation.

On Thursday, October 13th, Blankets & Bands features Columbia-based Latin Caravan, a stellar team of professionals sharing their love of Latin music. Led by Willie Olenick, the band performs Latin Jazz, Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Cumbia and even a little R&B, with Lee Martin on vocals, Juan Lanzot and Joe Garcia on vocals/percussion, Mack Hester on trombone, Rene Muñez on bass, and Morgan McGee on piano.

Enjoy country and southern rock covers from Sumter-based band Middle Ground (formerly Swift Creek) on Thursday, October 20th. 

On Thursday, October 27th come have some fun with local group New Old Friends. Recently formed by Dan Rhodus, Bob Williams, Ben Gettys, and Jennifer Erickson, the band describes themselves as friends you maybe haven't met yet, playing tunes you've likely forgotten.

And closing out the concerts on Thursday, November 3rd is the Camden ensemble Harre, Hayes & Massalon, playing acoustic rock sure to get you to tapping your toes and singing along to favorites from every decade. Buddy Harre, Jim Hayes and Danny Massalon are well known in the community and will bring you an evening of good times and great music. This concert was originally scheduled for September 29th, but was postponed due to weather.
