Annual Water Treatment Plant Maintenance Scheduled for March/April

The City of Camden strives to provide the highest quality of drinking water to our customers. On an annual basis during the winter months, the City implements a maintenance procedure that temporarily changes the treatment chemistry used to purify the water in order to clean the distribution system.

During the period of March 7 - 11, 2023, the City will discontinue the application of ammonia at the Water Treatment Plant, flush the distribution system, and disinfect with only chlorine. As a result, you may detect a slight chlorine taste and smell in your water. The Water Treatment Plant will continue to adhere to the strict guidelines set forth by SCDHEC during this treatment change to insure your water is safe.

During the period of April 4 - 8, 2023, the City will resume adding the ammonia to the chlorine disinfectant at the treatment plant and again flush the water distribution system.

If you have any questions about the upcoming procedure, please contact the Water Treatment Plant Manager at 432-0009 or the Department of Public Works at 425-6045.The City appreciates your understanding and support during this annual system maintenance process.
