Camden Fire Explorers Excel at State Competition
Camden Fire Department Explorers took home five trophies from the South Carolina Firefighters Association’s annual Junior Firefighter Competition on June 12, 2021. Explorers and advisors attended this full day event filled with training demos and opportunities learn what a career in fire service offers. The competition included individual gear donning, team gear donning, and team hose deployment.
The Camden Explorers competed against five other Explorer posts from across the state, consisting of 45 individual Explorers. Trophies were awarded to Dakota Brown (1st Place) for male gear donning; Nick Meuse (2nd Place) for male gear donning; Brycen Mosley (2nd Place) for female gear donning; Dakota Brown, Brycen Mosley, Bryan Yancey, Nick Meuse (1st Place ) for team gear donning; and Dakota Brown, Grace Floyd, Brycen Mosely, Jacob Benton (2nd Place) for team hose deployment.
“This is really rewarding, after the team has practiced two days each week for the last two months,” said Lead Advisor Engineer Jamey Brown. “It truly is an honor to be a part of a group of developing individuals who show such positive sportsmanship and continue to excel in so many aspects of life. All the hard work, dedication, and training that they show are helping them become positive leaders in the future.”
The Explorers were recognized for their hard work at the Camden City Council meeting Tuesday, July 13th. The Camden Explorers include: Jacob Benton, Dakota Brown, Josh Carr, Grace Floyd, Nick Meuse, Brycen Mosley, and Bryan Yancey. Advisors are Engineer Jamey Brown and Engineer Cody Combies.
“Our Explorers had an outstanding performance at the competition,” Battalion Chief Chris Tidwell said. “And I would like to give special thanks to all the Explorer Advisors for helping these young adults achieve the awards.”
The team will continue to practice the next couple of months going on to compete at the Explorer Competition at Fire Fest on Saturday, September 25th at Camden City Arena.
