CCRA / Springdale Racecourse Will Host SC High School XC

The City of Camden and Carolina Cup Racing Association (CCRA) have developed a relationship with the South Carolina High School League Cross Country (XC) Association to bring 4 major high school race events to Springdale Race Course this fall. According to Toby Edwards, Executive Director, the events will take place in October and November and are a perfect alternative to CCRA’s hosting of the Colonial Cup race meet, which was eliminated from Camden’s schedule in 2018. Camden/Springdale Racecourse event dates are:

  • Oct 12 - Bob Jenkin's SCTCCCA Coaches Classic Invitational with approximately 120 high school teams represented.
  • Oct 26 - Cici's Derby Invitational will draw approximately 1,100 athletes from around the state.
  • Nov 9 – the Mid-state Qualifiers where approximately 500 athletes from schools across the SC Midlands will compete.
  • Nov 16 - the State Championships / Finals where more than 2,000 athletes from all over the state will compete.

With the exception of the Mid-state Qualifiers, approximately 35 percent of teams and athletes will require overnight lodging in Camden. The city's Sports Tourism partners are coordinating hotel bookings with school coaches, and communicating lodging options with associated families and fans. Athletes are generally accompanied by 2 or more family members and friends. The tourism office, welcome center and Downtown Camden program are coordinating hospitality efforts for families and fans and will provide resources at a hospitality center under the grandstand during several of the race meets. All events are free to the public with only a minimum parking fee required.
