Eastbound I-20 and Patriot's Point Landing to Close Sunday, May 15th in Kershaw County

A section of Interstate 20 eastbound and Patriot’s Landing on The Wateree River in Kershaw County will be closed on Sunday, May 15, to allow recovery of a tractor-trailer that crashed into The Wateree River earlier this month.
Eastbound lanes will close beginning at 5:00am May 15. Reopening is planned by early afternoon, barring unforeseen circumstances. Westbound traffic will not be affected. Signs will be placed marking the detour, which includes US 601 to US 1 (W. DeKalb Street), York Street, Ehrenclou Drive (S-897) and US 521 (Broad Street).
The closure is necessary for two heavy duty trucks to set up on the eastbound bridge and extract the trailer and rig from the river below. The recovery operation is estimated at approximately six hours.
The boat landing at Patriot’s Point will also be closed during the tractor-trailer recovery beginning at midnight Saturday night and waterway traffic will be restricted in the area of the work on Sunday.
On May 1, the tractor-trailer crashed through the guardrail on Interstate 20 and landed in the river. The incident was investigated by The South Carolina Highway Patrol.
