Latest Update - Hurricane Ian

As of 8 AM, Ian is a tropical storm near Orlando with maximum sustained winds of 65 MPH. Ian has the potential to intensify and regain its status as a hurricane over open water before landing again on the SC coast Friday afternoon. Tropical Storm Warnings and a Hurricane Watch are posted for the SC coast. Note below, the area of tropical force winds covers three states. The Governor has declared a State of Emergency for the entire state. Ian is still predicted to be a tropical storm as it passes over the Midlands Friday evening into early Saturday morning. The chances of receiving tropical force winds have increased to 50-70% for our area. Rainfall amounts have also increased to the 4 to 10 inch range.

City staff opened the Kendall Dam slightly yesterday afternoon and will open the gate another 1 inch this morning. As of 0730 today the lake level appeared to be down about 4 inches with little change downstream.

Please be prepared for heavy rains, possible flooding, downed trees, and possible power outages. To report a power outage, call City Hall at 803-432-2421. Please be advised, electric crews cannot be dispatched to repair downed lines until winds have fallen below 30 mph.
