LOCATION UPDATE: Vincent Sheheen to Receive Scottie Award from SC Arts Alliance

The SC Arts Alliance, based in Fountain Inn, SC, will award former SC Senator Vincent Sheheen with their coveted Scottie Award in ceremony on Friday, February 19 at 11am in the Wood Auditorium of the Arts Center of Kershaw County, in Camden’s new state-designated Cultural District.

The Scottie Award recognizes individuals who have had a tremendous and long-lasting impact to the arts in South Carolina. Awarded only at the discretion of the organization’s board of directors, not on a regular basis, the Scottie Award is the SC Arts Alliance’s highest recognition.

As Senator, Vincent Sheheen consistently worked to strengthen the arts in South Carolina. He was the longest-serving co-chair of the Arts Caucus at the Statehouse where he helped advo-cate for continued and increased funding for the arts across the state. As Chair of the Senate Finance K-12 Education Subcommittee, he oversaw the budget of the South Carolina Arts Commission, the state’s arts agency, and helped strengthen the agency’s reach in all 46 coun-ties. Working with numerous colleagues in the Senate, across political lines, Sheheen was in-strumental in helping achieve the strong bipartisan support for the arts that exists today in the Legislature.

The SCAA board of directors unanimously approved awarding Vincent Sheheen the Scottie Award in January of 2021.

The press and public are invited to attend the press conference to be held on February 19, which will also be live-streamed on the SC Arts Alliance Facebook page. Remarks are planned from City of Camden officials, SCAA board members and staff, and Vincent Sheheen.

Attendees are asked to adhere to all COVID-19 protocols including wearing masks and social distancing.
