New Green Space Downtown
A new greenspace is available to residents and visitors of Downtown Camden. The small park at Market Street is located at the intersection of Clyburn Lane. It will provide seating and shade for pedestrians and customers of nearby eateries, as well as the Kershaw County Farmers Market, just across the street. Visitors to the park will find four picnic tables and two benches, under a shelter, in front by the street, and a walking path with three additional benches under tree shade. Additional improvements may be made in the future.
The park's creation will preserve the space nearest to the Powder Magazine, which is listed as a Kershaw County Historical Site. A large majority of the project was made possible with state Park and Recreation Department (PARD) grant funding, with the endorsement of Senator Vincent Sheheen and Representative Laurie Funderburk. Howard Wallace with Sassafrass Landscapes, designed the park layout and was awarded the bid to construct the park.
