Due to circumstances beyond our control, the City of Camden will no longer offer a recycling program for any glass or single use plastic bags.
The City of Camden provides residential trash pickup as well as recycling pickup to our City residents.
Green roll carts are for trash and recycling containers can be requested by calling at Public Works 803-425-6045.

The City of Camden has designated days for pick up of trash and recyclables once a week. Roll carts should be placed at the curb the night before your designated pick up day. Backyard trash pickup is available to disabled homeowners, with written verification from their doctor, when no one in the home is able to assist in the placement of the roll cart at the curb. The doctor’s explanation should include the name and address of the resident. Your doctor can mail the completed form to: Public Works, ATTN: Melba Deese, P.O. Box 7002, Camden, SC 29021 or fax to 803-425-7693.
Please contact 803-425-6045 to report damage to roll carts and recycling bins.
Bins and roll carts are emptied at the curb once a week on the same day as trash pickup.
Items which may be recycled in the City of Camden include:
- Mixed paper: office paper, newspapers and inserts, magazines, catalogs, junk mail, phone books (no shredded paper)
- Empty milk and juice cartons
- Clean, dry cardboard, corrugated, chipboard, pizza boxes (no cardboard lined with wax)
- Clean plastic containers and attached lids #1 – #7 (no plastic bags or wrap, loose lids or Styrofoam)
- Clean aluminum and steel cans and attached lids (no other metals)
2022 Holiday Trash & Recycling Pick-Up
Services are provided year-round from Monday to Friday, excepting changed schedules before or after a holiday. All holiday make up days are on Wednesday. Changed days are as follows:
Thanksgiving Day : Thursday ,November 24 moved to Wednesday, November 23
Christmas Day : Holiday Monday December 26 moved to Wednesday, December 28
New Years Day : Holiday Monday January 2 moved to Wednesday, January 4
Backdoor residents (see above) will be picked up on the Wednesdays also.
Collection routes typically run every 7 to 10 business days, except during leaf season (December – February). Limbs should be no more than 10 feet in length. Yard debris must be kept separate from other trash and placed at the front property line. Yard debris can be placed in one pile at the front property line. Bricks, rocks, concrete, dirt and construction material cannot be collected. Yard debris is not to be placed in or on any storm drain, gutter, street or sidewalk.
Delays in collection of yard debris may occur due to equipment problems and/or holiday schedules, resulting in a change of collection day or missed service to our customers. Your patience during these times will be appreciated.
Contractors are responsible for disposal of the yard trimmings they generate. These trimmings will not be collected.

Bulk trash is picked up once a week on the same schedule as yard debris. Bulk trash must be kept separate from yard debris. This includes - but not limited to - old furniture, rugs, and other household or yard items that are too large to put in the roll cart for household trash collection.
Computers, monitors, printers, televisions, etc. cannot be placed in the trash for collection. These items may be taken to any Kershaw County Recycling Center for disposal. The City does not pick up large appliances with a cord.
