Public Tree Ordinance

The City appreciates and recognizes that the existence of public trees is an integral part of the City and its history; providing many economic, social and environmental benefits and values. As such, an active and relevant public tree ordinance is important to managing a healthy community forest. It is also one of the four criteria required in maintaining status of The Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree City USA program.

The purpose of the public tree ordinance is to establish policies, regulations and standards for the management of public trees within the City. Public tree management shall include but not be limited to, tree selection, installation, establishment, maintenance, protection and removal. The ordinance also establishes the Parks & Trees Commission in concert with designating tree management authority to the Urban Forester.
